Thomas De Witt Talmage
1832-1902Reverend Dr. Thomas De Witt Talmage was a preacher, clergyman and divine in America who held pastorates in the Reformed Church of America and Presbyterian Church; he also preached in England. He was one of the most prominent religious leaders in the United States during the middle to late 1800s, equaled as a pulpit orator perhaps only by Henry Ward Beecher. During the 1860s and 70s, Talmage was a New York City reformer and involved in crusades against vice and crime.
